Dementia Support

So... supporting younger people with dementia

We have a new support group at Coastal Health & Wellbeing, on Wednesdays, fortnightly from 18th June 10:30am - 12:30pm.

Led by So... our new local community group is dedicated to creating a supportive space for people who are facing the challenges of the early stages of dementia or memory problems.

"We believe that learning from one another can make a significant difference in all our lives."

As a charity So...'s core mission is to provide a friendly and understanding environment, sometimes it's just as important to have a shoulder to lean on - someone who truly understands what you are going through. At the meetings you will find a community ready to empathise and support, to share stories and to cultivate friendships that can last beyond the coffee cups.

So...  provides support groups for younger people with dementia, including those recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or any other form of dementia. The support group is also for carer partners and the aim is to help and provide aid so people can live as near as normal life as possible.

So... focuses on bridging the gap in support services left by NHS offerings. Upon diagnosis individuals and their carers often find themselves lacking in critical support and guidance. This is where So... steps in, providing a warm and inclusive environment for those impacted by dementia, to voice their concerns, receive personalised assistance with form filling, benefit applications, and legal power of attorney. The group sessions can also provide valuable information to carers and guide individuals to relevant organisations and care resources. With representatives from The Alzheimer's Society and mental health nurse team the discussions are regularly enriched with expert knowledge.

So... started its first support group meeting in 2021.

"Since our inception our impact has been significant and our connections with local hospitals and memory services have allowed us to offer an inside view of living with dementia. By doing so we have fostered greater understanding and empathy, ensuring individuals receive the care and attention they truly deserve".

The first meeting will be one Wednesday 18th June 10:30am - 12:30pm
